I've been getting pretty addicted to these fish the last couple of years, and I've spent a lot of time trying to figure these monsters out.
June/July are the best times to catch them, so I've been going a lot lately. I went 3 times last week and caught 7 of them with the biggest being 41 inches, but the real giants weren't showing up.
Mike Arhets (brownbaggermike) and I almost always fish together, but he hadn't been able to chase the tigers with me in a long while, and he was sure glad he went with me last night! He hooked into this toothy behemoth at about 10:30pm, well into dark. It took about 10 minutes of fighting until we caught our first glimpse of this fish with my headlamp, and our jaws hit the floor. It looked like a crocodile.
caught on 5 inch AC minnow.
4 pounds shy of the state record.
Congratulations on a fine fish. I don't know much about those fish, but have thought about giving them a try over the years, but I am sure when they get up into the 40 inch range they get extremely hard to catch.
I enjoyed visiting with you guys this summer and look forward to another meeting. You both are dedicated trophy fisherman and good at what you do.
thanks, John. It was good to meet you too, and i can say the same for dedication about you and Ron as well. Ron and I have emailed, and we are going to see if we can meet up sometime at the Gorge and chase the kokanee.
these tigers have a lot of similarities to brown fishing. those bigger ones definitely get harder to catch _________________
